JUNE 20 FLAG DAY
The National Flag Memorial built on the site in 1957 and the park that surround it are the seat of national celebrations every Flag Day.
Historians usually attribute the colours to either the devotion of Virgin Mary or loyalty to the House of Bourbon.
The use of the flag is forbidden by the Primer Triunvirato.
Shortly after the Asamblea del Año XIII allowed the use of the flag as a war flag.
The Congress of Tucumán finally designated it as the national flag, in 1816.

The full flag featuring the sun is called the Official Ceremonial Flag (Bandera Oficial de Ceremonia).
The flag without the sun is considered the Ornamental Flag (Bandera de Ornamento).
While both versions are equally considered the national flag, the ornamental version must always be hoisted
below the Official Ceremony Flag.

Pledge to the Flag
Flag Day is celebrated on June 20, in honour of the anniversary of Manuel Belgrano death, students oath to the Flag.
The following pledge is recited to students nationwide on this day by their respective school authorities .
In large towns where students are gathered en masse,
the pledge is taken by the city executive, preceded by words of advice and honor
to the memory of its creator, Manuel Belgrano, using the following formula:

MANUEL BELGRANO
Manuel José Joaquín del Corazón de Jesús Belgrano y González was born in Buenos Aires on 3 June 1770. He has a large family made up of 15 brothers and sisters .
Belgrano completes his first studies at the San Carlos School (Nacional Buenos Aires) where he learns Latin, Philosophy, Logic, Physics, Metaphysics, and Literature graduating in 1786. He travels to Europe to study Law and Economics at the university of Salamanca, Spain . Back in the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, he is one of the first politicians to advocate the development of an important Educational System, promoting the creation of free schools for poor children. As a military leader his concern with public education is not interrupted by his military campaigns in the Argentinian Wars of Independence.
His descendants, two children from different women, Maria Josefa Ezcurra and Maria Dolores Helguera, already married.
His son Pedro Pablo was born on July 30, 1813 and adopted by Encarnación Ezcurra and her husband Juan Manuel de Rosas.
Belgrano’s daughter, Manuela Mónica del Sagrado Corazón was born on 4 may, 1819. Neither of them is recognised by Belgrano.
He is regarded as one of the main Libertadores of the country. Because of his working compromise with the nation’s progress, the inhabitants’ education and his patriotic political convictions , 2020 is “ GENERAL MANUEL BELGRANO YEAR.”
